Clay, Body, and Memory
There is something about clay that is so ordinary and grounded, and that is exactly what I find enchanting. It connects to our most basic needs—to nourish ourselves, to gather and preserve, to hold what truly matters.
Here on this page you can find various objects that I have made.
In my pottery, I rely on slow working methods that require presence and patience. I do not mass produce and therefore there is usually only one copy of each object. I use mixed media and allow myself to find what suits me and the clay each time. The objects are handmade from stoneware, sometimes on the wheel but most often with the coiling or pinching technique. Sometimes I also use Icelandic clay that I apply to the outside of the object and then draw the patterns with the scrafito technique. Sometimes I hand-paint patterns on the clay after the first firing or create patterns with stamps in the wet clay that I hand-make from clay. The patterns on the stamps are inspired by shapes that I see around me, mostly from nature. I also draw inspiration from ancient historical symbolism that Marija Gimbutas describes in The Language of the Goddess. These ancient symbols express reverence for life, for transformation and fertility. This process is slow and demanding, but also very down-to-earth and rewarding.
I currently sell my products directly from the studio. So please get in touch if you are interested in purchasing anything from me.
